Scholarship Program
45 Scholarships Needed for 2023!
In February of 2020, we welcomed the start of the Honduran school year and the official launch of the CAMINO scholarship program. We has 43 students sponsored from three different impoverished communities. Their books were purchased and their uniforms fitted. However less than a month into the school year, COVID reached Honduras and the entire country shut down for several months. Even when things slowly opened, children were still not allowed back in the classroom. Some children were able to do work for their teachers, thanks to social media, while other students fell behind. 2021 was not much better, though more teachers were able to get students connected to electronic clases. However, many families did not own a smartphone, not to even mention owning a computer.
We have hopes for the 2023 school year, as more and more classrooms are opening back up. However, the scholarship programs that we had worked so hard to develop for the 2020 school year have to be reset at this point. This year we will be raising $150 per scholarship student. Our experience from the past two year has shown that some 2nd grade teachers pick books that are more expensive than some high schoolers books, while a 4th grader might have relatively cheaper books. Our hope is that not all the scholarships will cost $150 to cover their books and uniforms. Whatever funds left over will go to trying to install a public internet connection in the community where 70% of our scholarship students come from, as well as at our El Camino church plant, to help cover one of the greatest out of pocket expenses for our students: Internet Access.
Our goal is to fund 45 scholarships for the 2023 school year for our students that are part of our children’s ministry at one of our two church plant. Please consider helping one of these 45 students go to school this coming year!
