Every Family and Community Deserves to Have a Place to Learn and Grow in Christ!

Honduras is one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere. According to the World Bank, 69.8% of the Honduran population lives below the national poverty line. This means that nearly 7 out of every 10 Hondurans live on less than $2.50 per day.

Extreme poverty has a devastating impact on individuals and communities. People living in extreme poverty are more likely to experience hunger, malnutrition, disease, and illiteracy. They are also more likely to be victims of violence and exploitation.

In the midst of all this suffering, churches play an important role. They provide a sense of community, hope, and support for people living in extreme poverty.

A church is a place where people of faith can come together to worship, learn, and grow. It is a place where people can find community, support, and comfort, which is especially important in communities struggling with extreme poverty.

The problem is that in communities where a majority of families are struggling with extreme poverty, the local churches are also struggling for a lack of funding. This limits the ability of the local church to accompany and assist families in their time of need. In some communities, there may not be a church. That was the case in two of the communities where CAMINO’s serves, which lead us to plant two church plants in those communities.

The church is making a real difference in the lives of people living in extreme poverty in Honduras. It is providing a sense of community, hope, and support. It is also providing the essential services that people need to survive and thrive. The church is an essential part of the solution to extreme poverty in Honduras, which is why we work to support and strengthen the faith communities that exist in the communities we serve.

Small mountain churches like this one carry out services with whatever they have at hand. Sometimes that means foregoing walls or even seating, but the important thing is that the Good News of Jesus is being shared!
